Remote Imaging Program

Remotely Image under the Southern Australian Skies with state of the art research grade equipment!

All you need is an Internet connection and our remote control software to take command of the Southern Astro Telescope as if you where sitting in the observatory yourself. We’ve taken away the hard setup work freeing you to enjoy an imaging session in the comfort of your own home.

Southern Astro uses CCDAutoPilot3 to simplify and automate most of the image acquisition process. It’s as simple as selecting your target, entering in the exposure times and clicking the run button. The system will slew, frame, focus and autoguide whilst providing real time feedback as it preforms each step. You can then download your 16bit FITS files at a later stage for image processing.

We recommend you are familiar with the basic principles behind Astro CCD imaging and familiar with the operation of CCDAutoPilot3, The Sky 6 and CCDSoft. If not a tailored training package can be put together at request.

If you’re not familiar with CCDAutoPilot3 you are more than welcome to acquire your images manually. Southern Astro uses the following programs:

The Sky 6 Professional, CCDSoft V5. FocusMax, RCOS TCC and Registar.

Additional you’re more then welcome to register, align and stack your images into a single image for a single download.

The program operates on Weekdays and Weekends (Australian Time +10 GMT). Time can be purchased in 2 hour, 4 hour and all nightly blocks. Your pre-paid block time never expires.

The oberving scheduled is published online, memebers can allocate their own time, it’s a first come first served basis.

Time usage starts at first login and continues until you logoff, your image run ends or the weather becomes unsuitable.

Users are required to use MSN Messanger or Skype so I can stay regular contact with you during your session.

You can access the forums to schedule observing time, request help & support, talk to other users and check your account balance, once you have purchased time.
